HISTORY OF NORTH AMERICA – AUSTRALIA PRESBYTERY MEN’S FELLOWSHIP

The North America – Australia Presbytery (NAAP) the largest and the most extensive Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Men’s Fellowship emerged from a transition of the Oversees Mission Field to a North America – Australia. It all began from a recommendation made from a workshop group during the 2nd Presbytery Council Meeting held at Worcester Massachusetts from April 7-9, 2016. The Group was Chaired by Rev. Eric Botchway and the Secretary was Michael Anyane-Yeboah. Among the recommendations made was the re-organization of the Men’s Fellowship at the Presbytery Level. The Presbytery Chairperson Rev. Herbert Anim Opong expressed his appreciation to the Workshop Group and a Technical Committee was formed with Rev. Barima Appiah Dankwa appointed as a Coordinator for the Presbytery and Michael Anyane-Yeboah as the Secretary.

LEADERSHIP DRIVE

A Leadership drive was put in place to locate past Leaders of the Fellowship. Brother Ernest Mante, a Past President of the Fellowship(of blessed Memory) voluntered to call other Past leaders to join us move the Fellowship forward. In constant communication with each other on a Phone Line that I created resulted in bringing together brothers like Richard Adu Sarkodie, Ernest Mante, Julius Ahenkora, Dr. Adjem Bediako, Eric Abrokwa, Richmond Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, Eric Banning, Tony Hammond and Justice Addo the period between May 2016 through September 2016. A platform was also created to boost the morale of brothers in our communication efforts. The number of participants kept increasing on our Conference Line and  the meetings were chaired by Brother Ernest Mante with Michael Anyane-Yeboah as the Secretary.

MOVING FORWARD

Brothers who attended subsequent meetings agreed that all former Executives and members of the Oversee Mission Field must be informed of the new moves going on in the Men’s Fellowship at the Presbytery Level concerning its re-organization. An invitation for the Men’s Fellowship to attend the 3rd Presbytery Council Meeting held on October 7-8, 2016 at Virginia in the Washington DC District was responded when Brother Richmond Ampaben Kyeremeh volunteered to attend as observer, bearing the transportation cost from Columbus Ohio to Virginia and back from his own pocket. The year 2020 began with a comprehensive Plan of work whose efforts were thwarted by the Coronavirus disease nick named Covid-19 pandemic. Congregations and Districts were not able to function as the whole world faced a Severe Lockdown.

BUDGET PROPOSALS

The Presbytery Executives formed a Budget Committee in 2020 to set up Proposals for 2021 by considering Actual Income and Expenditure for 2019. Details were discussed at Local and District Levels. On March 28,2021 at a  General Meeting the Budget for 2021 has been adopted as a working document. Members would Contribute a yearly Assessment Fee of $25 each to support the General running Cost of the Fellowship at the Presbytery Level.

PROJECTIONS

  1. The Fellowship at the Presbytery Level has made the following Projections
  2. That a separate Bank Account be opened under the umbrella of the North America – Australia Presbytery Account and administered by the Signatories of the Presbytery Executives.
  3. That  the future office allocation for the Men’s Fellowship would be furnished and made operational.
  4. That the Calgary Canada and California Missions would be encouraged to be inaugurated.
  • The Fellowship at the District/Mission Levels have been encouraged to celebrate their Conferences and to win more souls. Their Conference dates have been Scheduled and forwarded to the Presbytery Fellowship.
  • Comprehensive Plan of work has been put into place for the year 2021 and it includes Visitation to all the Districts by the Presbytery Executives.

CHALLENGES

The transition from the Oversee Mission Fields to a full Presbytery has come with a lot of Challenges

  1. The American System of Government and the Geographical Location of more than fifty two different States in the United States of America, Canada and Australia is indeed a vast area for effective Evangelistic Activities. Some Congregations within the same District cannot easily be reached by road except by air flights.
  2. Some parts of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Constitution and for that matter the National Men’s Fellowship Constitution do not favor our situation. We are therefore pleading with National that few bye-laws be set up in New Constitution to guide members in the Diaspora.

FAITHFUL DEPARTED

We lost the following gallant men in 2020

  1. Brother Solomon Gyimah of Ebenezer Congregation Bronx in the New York District died April 24, 2020 and buried April 29, 2020
  2. Brother Andrews Takyi of Trenton Congregation in the New Jersey District died on August 5, 2020 and was buried on September 5, 2020

Members from all Districts attended the funeral celebrations and contributed fully.
